The Craftmanship behind the Linen Batik Cardigan

The Linen Batik Cardigan takes inspiration from the relaxed structure of the Japanese kimono, reinterpreted through a contemporary Southeast Asian lens. Its open-front construction, drop shoulders and generous lines create the characteristic ease of a kimono while keeping the silhouette clean and modern.

The defining detail is the asymmetric panel construction, with the batik motif concentrated on one side of the body and extending into the sleeve. Rather than treating batik as a decorative print, the pattern is incorporated into the garment’s panel design, giving the traditional motif a more considered, architectural expression.

A V-neckline is framed by a continuous flat band collar that runs neatly down the open front. The relaxed drop-shoulder construction is balanced by a structured patch pocket, adding function while maintaining the simplicity of the silhouette.

The result is a thoughtful meeting of Japanese-inspired tailoring and Southeast Asian textile tradition — relaxed in form, distinctive in construction, and grounded in the character of batik.
