The Craftmanship behind the Batik Vest
The Batik Vest reinterprets traditional Javanese batik through a clean, contemporary silhouette. Cut in a relaxed, boxy shape at hip length, its simple form allows the intricate batik motifs to remain the focus.
The defining detail is the side construction, with fabric ties on both sides that allow the vest to be adjusted and shaped at the waist. The deep V-neckline follows a subtle wrap-inspired crossover, creating a layered effect while keeping the construction clean and understated.
The batik brings together traditional Javanese motifs, including the diagonal lines of Parang, the geometric Kawung, and the stylised Gurdo/Sawat wing motif. These distinctive elements give the piece its cultural character, while the sleeveless cut and uncomplicated silhouette give it a contemporary feel.
